Why “Seven Winds”?
I came about my name in the same way I usually do: love and inspiration of a place. Having relocated to a small home in the country in November of 2020, I began looking for cues from the land as soon as we started unpacking. When we met our landlord for the first time, he mentioned something about this property being especially beautiful “up here where the seven winds meet”, and I immediately knew exactly what my name should be.
My husband and I got to work creating a custom hex sign logo — a nod to our Pennsylvania German heritage and the rich PA “Dutch” culture and history here in Berks County; a seven pointed star to symbolize each of the seven winds.
Our little homestead certainly lives up to its name — the winds up here can be relentless, especially in the colder months! But thanks to our warm fireplace (and lots of old quilts and sweaters!), we stay nice and cozy through it all.
What Will You Find Here?
Throughout the year (and often aligned with the season changes), you’ll find my shop stocked with cold and hot process and hand-milled soaps, smoked and herbed salts, dried tea blends, soaking salts for the whole body or just the feet, hand-dipped and hand-poured candles, dolls, aprons, small quilts — and who knows what else!
So much of what I create is shaped by my journey through the seasons of our Earth. Soaps and salts, teas and tinctures – all contain not only the ingredients of the season they were created in, they also are born of the feelings and inspiration of me, the maker as I move through the changing weather and moods of the Earth’s turning. Some offerings may be one of a kind, never to be recreated. And others may appear again and again. Done are my days of trying to fit myself into a factory role, and instead, I am moving forward as an artist and creating only what moves me and fills my soul with peace and fulfillment. I hope this positive shift shows in every item that is born through my hands from here on out — and that all my beloved creations can find homes where they are well-used and well-loved.
